Inland had a humble start. In the late 1960s, four Chicago public school teachers, led by Dan Goodwin, CEO, decided to invest in real estate as a sideline to earn money over and above their $6,000-per-year teaching salaries. So they began by building some houses and small apartment buildings and opened a real estate brokerage company, doing all of it during their off-school hours.
